Now This Is Really Mean

And people wonder why Rover is anxious and destructive ...

When was the last time you made him really focus?

After all, making your dog focus for 45 minutes twice a do is really very little to ask of him. If you think about it, forty five minutes of dog exercise takes only a very small part of his day.

Your dog needs to focus and have working time. It is not good for him to do as he pleases, and when he feels like it.

Lack of discipline and exercise are the main reasons for which a dog develops destructive habits or anxiety. And sometimes it even leads to dog aggression.

The cruel thing that a lot of humans do is to feed the dog twice a day and then let it run in the yard for activity. It's not loving freedom. It's not qualified exercise. It's denial of the dog's inborn need for purpose and focus - and it can destroy him!

Help! Dog Barking! It's A Monster!

The nasty, hysterical dog barking and yapping could be heard from some distance. I frowned as I watched the small dog's owner softly saying, "No, No now, don't do that." He was petting the dog and trying to hold it back.

The little dog was getting more and more angry, and strained increasingly hard on the leash. Gatsby rolled his eyes and looked at me respectfully. I knew the man well, and he had also come to see that my boy was a gentle giant. The dogs smelled one another, and the situation was calm.

I did not tell this owner because he and his wife are not receptive to any help. But the truth is, a little dog behaving aggressively like that is very likely to be attacked at some point. Dog Aggression is not cute. Even from a pint sized dog.

Does the "Dog Whisper Method" Really Work on a Red Zone Case?

Some people really question if the Dog Whisper Method will work on a "red zone" dog aggression case.

I speak from personal experience, because I use the Dog Whisper Method. It DOES work! The crazy ones are the "dog whisper wanna-be's" that don't know what they are doing.

A red zone case is nothing to fool with. Any dog is capable of inflicting serious damage; however, these are the dogs that WILL inflict it. Being struck with a level 3 or more dog bite is like having several electric shocks sent through your body at the same time. The use of the injured body part is limited for a few hours up to a few days, and may require a trip to the emergency room.

The Dog Whisper Method has saved the lives of many dogs who would otherwise be euthanised. Dogs on whom Dog Trainers gave up in despair. After all, no amount of customary "dog training" can begin to solve these psychological problems!

I found a couple of things the "Dog Whisperer," Cesar Millan, has done to be crazy by my definition. But I am not going around slandering him, because I don't want people to do that to me. He does a lot of good things, and has saved a lot of dogs.

There are several of us out there who know how to do these methods. The message is not to knock the Dog Whisper Method, but to knock trying to do what you do not know how to do ... And not knowing when the dog has really had it ... And when and how to stop, to touch back ...

The results can be lethal!

Dog Body Language -
Is That Really Aggressive Dog Behavior?

A few months ago, I was taking a bike ride when a couple with a Black Labrador Retriever and a Golden Retriever stopped and asked me for directions. One thing about me is that I never fib about such things; if I don't know where I'm going, I say so.

Naturally I asked the woman about her dogs. Both were sweet. The Golden Retriever was particularly mellow.

The Golden Retriever's first owner had a six year-old, she said. The dog has hip dysplasia and was sound asleep. The six year-old jumped off the couch and landed on the sleeping dog's hips. Of course, she bit him! Can you believe the owner was ready to put her to sleep for that?

Needless to say, it took me a few minutes to calm down from that one. I would never tolerate aggressive dog behavior, much less toward a child.

But think about it. When people are sleeping, if you startle them, most will wack you one! It's reflexive. It's defensive. It's automatic, before they are fully awake.

A lot of people panic over growls and showing of teeth. A lot of times, the dog is playing. Watch the body language. If that rear is in the air while the dog is growling at you, I promise you - He just wants to play! That is referred to as the "play bow."

Or if you have just come home, your dog's tail is wagging and his mouth is open so that all his teeth are exposed - He's smiling!

The display of one canine tooth is also a warning. Not really dog aggression.

Everybody needs to become more aware of dog body language... and stop panicking.

My old Beagle Hound used to growl when she was playing. My current dog doesn't. He asks permission to step past me, runs a figure eight outside and does a jump in the air to release his exuberance, then comes back to me.

Please, pay attention to your pet's dog body language.

If you have concerns about anything your dog is doing, ask a dog behavior professional to be sure you are not overreacting.

Dog Feeding - Are There Rules To Do Dog Feeding Right?

Feeding time is a very serious mental activity for dogs, as well as a physically restoring, energy-producing time.

Yes, it is very important to feed your dog every day... but the WAY you feed him matters. When you feed a dog, you are feeding energy to him ... so he needs to be in a calmer state before you start. You don't need to be feeding energy to a dog who is in an aggressive state.

Having a dog training business, my dog constantly has to adjust to new dogs coming and going. And everybody has to learn consistent rules. Sometimes I get separate dishes for everyone, and sometimes I have them all share the same dish. But no matter which way it is, nobody touches the food until I say so.

Food and mating rights are the two things that cause a dog fight more than anything else in dog packs.

It's also important for dogs to eat together. Dog packs do.

Separation is often the chosen solution for owners who don't know what else to do with a dog aggression problem beyond their control. But it's not an answer. It only increases the problem to keep an animal separated at dog feeding time.

So... YES ... Feed your dog!

Vaccinosis - The Vaccine Challenge -
It's Your Pet's Health, So What To Do?

Consider this serious threat. Over-vaccination and the rabies vaccine can cause pet health problems and even pet death - including autoimmune diseases, dog aggression, seizures, epilepsy, fibrosarcomas, and more.

Discover the latest vital research data on vaccinosis as doctors lead The Vaccine Challenge of veterinary protocols, and what you can do for pet health. Go to Paw Persuasion - Pet Health - The Vaccine Challenge for details and links.

You will also want to hear the Animal Talk Naturally April 25, 2007 interview with Dr. W. Jean Dodds and Kris L. Christine through this link: The Vaccine Challenge.

Consider this: When a vaccine is administered, the immune system is shut down for at least 10 to 45 days. Think of the ramifications to an 8-week old puppy or kitten whose immune system does not even mature until six months of age!

For those of you who do not know, Dr. Dodds has been in veterinary practice and research for 42 years, the last 30 of which have been devoted to collecting research data on the issue of vaccinosis and the development of pet health diagnostic protocols.

Dr. Dodds has also created Hemolife, a "Red Cross" blood bank for dogs used by veterinarians throughout the U.S. Dr. Dodds' website is Hemopet.org.

Read more, and find out how you can support the new study through the The Rabies Challenge Fund Charitable Trust through this link: Paw Persuasion - Pet Health - The Vaccine Challenge.

Dog Aggression:
Can These Dogs Get Along?

Is it possible to make two dogs who hate each other get along without a dog fight? What do you do about intense Dog Aggression toward another dog?

Absolutely!

... But not if you go in there with the attitude that you are asking them to do so.

You have to go in there like a Leader who expects his pack to behave like a pack.

How?

Start walking the dogs together and making them smell each other through the fence. Make them lie down and give each other their backs.

Right now I have a client with this problem to the extreme. Two of her dogs were extrememly intent upon going after each other. Both the Pit Bull and the Korean Jindo were "starters," not peacemakers.

So they were both made to surrender their backs to each other, to lie down beside each other, and to smell one another. Then we took them on a 45 minute walk without allowing them to look at each other.

It worked. Now the owners can walk them together for the first time ever!

Of course, when you have dogs, you will always want them to get along. But when they don't, you have to step forward and do what needs to be done.
