Memorial To My Girl

Yesterday, I had my seventeen year old beagle hound, Tonya, put to sleep. She could barely hear, was starting to lose weight rapidly, and having much trouble moving around. I could not bear to see her suffer anymore. I took her back to the yard she loved, and held her as she passed on. That dog was the toughest we ever had, but she sure was a sweetie and a loyal friend.

Goodbye, Girl.

P.S Tonya received turkey and rice the last two days of her life... and she loved every morsel of it!

I'm so sorry you had to go through this, Rena. I know how special Tonya was to you, the last dog of your childhood, and one in whom you invested so much or yourself. I know you will miss her.

But you know you did the right thing, and at the right time...an act of love for her. Be comforted that she is no longer experiencing the pain you saw when she tried to sit or get up. She's no longer struggling to walk to go out. She's no longer wasting away, with no quality of life, no interest in life, just suffering. And Jack Van Impe must be right - there must be dogs in heaven, and surely she will be there for you!

I know how hard it was to lose my Amber ("Bebe"), who was with me for the first 11 years after my husband died. I wrote a "note" in Remembrance of My Special Amber on Facebook that might help you. It's at http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/note.php?note_id=8945661831 - or shortened: ==> http://tinyurl.com/RemAmber

Let yourself grieve, but be comforted that you did the right thing at the right time, and let yourself delight in many fond memories of all those years. We all send our love and prayers for your comfort and peace.
